70% of people plan on giving this Christmas

As the year draws to a close, the third sector is gearing up to make the most of the festive season.

The public’s generosity is in full swing during these winter months and so we encourage all charities to use this opportunity to raise awareness of their cause and inspire visitor support.

So why is the public more generous this time of year?

A combination of end of year bonuses, the desire to give to those less fortunate and being presented with more competing causes than ever before, means that charities need to stand out in order to grab the public’s attention and encourage potential donations.

Festive fundraising insights to be aware of:

  • 70% of people plan on giving over Christmas
  • 43% say they are looking for chances to donate over Christmas
  • 31% give to campaigns that ask for contributions
  • There are two predicted spikes in giving on 20th & 23rd December

Capture support with contactless

On-site donation collections are a great way to capture spontaneous gifts, with contactless devices like the Donation Station working hard to optimise the amount visitors give and enabling charities to keep in touch, maintaining those important donor relationships.

What's possible?

  • Increase your average donation amount
  • Boost donations by 25% with Gift Aid declarations
  • Make supporter relationships last longer with data collection

Who are we supporting?

Discover some of the organisations we are currently supporting and what they’re up to this Christmas.

Communicorp

This is our fourth year supporting Communicorp’s Christmas Toy Appeal, through our contactless fundraising devices. Throughout the winter months, Bluewater shopping centre will host an interactive display, designed to collect both physical toy donations and contactless card donations.

Our device, along with strong visuals and messaging, create a large presence. This attracts passers-by, encourages support and spreads awareness for their chosen cause.

Over the past 3 years, they’ve raised over £54,000 with a high donation average of £14.50, proving just how generous the public can be when they connect with a cause, even in passing.

Chatsworth House

Another local cause, Chatsworth House, have implemented one of our devices to help fund the refurbishment of their historical Cascade feature. Additionally, 60% of all donations made so far have been Gift Aided.

This winter, they are putting on a range of activities including:

  • Wreath making
  • Storytime with Father Christmas
  • A winter Ball
  • Festive printmaking

From 9th November 2024 – 5th January 2025 the Christmas Feast will take place. It’s an interactive family event, in partnership with Joseph Coelho OBE. Events like this help to expand the Trust’s charitable support and engages a mixture of demographics through impactful and meaningful interactions.

Remember, the more people connect with a cause the more they are likely to give!

The Salvation Army

Each year the Salvation Army hosts a Christmas event at the Royal Albert Hall, involving Christmas carols, Bible readings, messages from special guests and lots of music!

Last year we supported the event with a couple of our Midi Donation Stations, used by members to collect digital donations on the door. The devices had a big impact, with large screens that help draw in visitors and make the on-screen donor journey easy to navigate.

Sheffield Cathedral

Christmas is a busy time for Cathedrals, with lots of events and fundraising appeals taking place in order to help those less fortunate.

Sheffield Cathedral hosts many seasonal events, with 25% of their contactless income last year being raised in November and December alone. This year is no different, with a light show, Christmas tree festival, carolling and lots more happening from November onwards!

The Cathedral also rents out their space to local organisations. Sheffield Hospital Charity, one of our healthcare customers, held a carolling event there last year, using a Midi to encourage support in exchange for an enjoyable evening.
